halloween

Our Halloween was an interesting one. We have officially learned that just because Brian concocts some random thing for us to dress up as for Halloween ... it doesn’t mean that I can make it happen. At least without a small fortune, tons of internet research, a bit of help, and a lot of swearing.

We were part of The Electric Mayhem, of Muppets fame. We chose the characters of Floyd Pepper, Janice and Animal, respectively. In his heart of hearts, Brian really wanted to be Dr. Teeth. He keeps saying, “Next time.” I keep muttering, “Over my dead body.” And literally - that’s what it would take.

I have to throw a shout out to my mom, who made Brian’s Floyd-shirt happen. The night before Halloween. Yes ... she’s that good. I did everything else - good, bad and indifferent. I’ve learned that if this whole ‘homemaker’ thing goes south, that I can earn a living in the wig industry.

That was a joke.

In all honesty, though, I did make the head attire - bit by bit and feather by feather. I have the hot glue burns to prove it. I even made homemade drumsticks, for crying out loud. The hardest part of this whole process was Ammon’s costume, to tell you the truth. Who would have thought that after the hell fun I went through putting this all together - that spraying Ammon’s hair purpley-magenta would be the toughest thing? Apparently, I don’t know my own child.

Despite all this work, we had a very low-key Halloween this year. We went around to visit family on Halloween-proper (not even the official Trick-or-Treating night), and that was it. We didn’t participate in any other activity for the holiday. I’m still a little bummed about that ... but we had fun, nonetheless. Others may question our sanity. Why did you go to all that trouble for nothing? Well, my friends ... that’s just how we roll.

I’m still finding feather boa bits all over the house. Worth it? Of course.
