love is all you need

Here we sit … exactly a month away from Valentine’s Day.

And here I sit … in a home still celebrating some serious Christmas cheer. The lovely Becky Higgins once said that, “As far as I’m concerned, the Christmas season lasts as long as I’m eating fudge.” And, like her … I’m still eating fudge.

I know this doesn't sound very lovey-dovey ... but those who think that is a tad ridiculous can just deal.

But, back to the reason for this season: Love.

I’m not one of those people that believe that Valentine’s Day is a ‘made-up holiday’ (cough: Brian). I enjoy the special time that is set aside to relish in the loves you have in your life. I also believe that we shouldn’t restrict the profession of love to just February the 14th. I accept that ‘love’ is a verb – it is an action, something that we do. And that is something that we should all remember the other 364 days of the year.

I strongly believe that there is much we can all do to make the world around us a better place. We have a powerful ability to brighten the lives of those we come in contact with. We have the authority to control our outlook. We have the opportunity to share the light of Christ.

The foundation of that? Love.

Nice to meet you.

Frankly, I'm pretty stoked to send 2010 packing. As bad as that sounds ... it hasn't been the best of years for me. And I'm thrilled as grits to have a clean slate coming my way. I am - without a doubt - insanely excited. Really.

May this upcoming year be all that you wish for. May it be rich with blessings and experiences and memories.

Here's to a new year. Here's to a fresh start. Here's to 2011.
