She fell right in line, goose-stepping alongside her mom and I - and proved that she is the perfect addition to a well-oiled machine.
For this little lady, my living room became my studio once again. We flew by the seat of our pants, we moved the furniture, we swung from the chandelier - and the room exploded in pink and frills. And these two moms - who up until now have known nothing but boys - had the time of their lives (and we hope that she will one day forgive us for all the male pronouns ... wretched habits). I painted her darling toenails. And adjusted her tutu as only a dancer can.
And since, I’ve even cracked open the girl box for her. Something I hold very close, and very dear. Something I have kept very guarded of late. Something I wouldn’t do for just anyone. But for her ... well. For her, I did it.
This goes without saying. But I’ll say it anyway. It was the perfect afternoon.
Not only did I get to spend some much needed time with my friend Becky, which I’ve missed - but I was able to spend some time with Jenna in complete and total peace. And that is exactly what I felt while in her presence.
Peace.
I snuggled her; I stroked her fingers. I counted her toes, and I caressed her head. Our hearts had a bit of a conversation - and I’m grateful and honored to have had one so pure in my home that day. To have the windows of heaven propped open, letting in a gentle breeze.
Yes. A perfect afternoon. The perfect afternoon.
I didn’t think of it in the moment - but in retrospect, I’m a little saddened by the knowledge that this will be the last Mitchell baby that I will photograph. Make that a lot saddened. She was the fourth. Bittersweet.
But I have to say ... what a way to go.
Jenna. Oh ... there is something special about you, sweet girl. You are a valiant soul. You are beautiful. Now, tomorrow, and always. I simply can’t wait to watch you grow, and to document the memories of your life. As with your brothers before you, I am excited to see the impact your life has on your family. A group my heart burns with love for.
Most importantly, I’m thankful that I am one of those blessed with the opportunity of knowing you. And that I will be able to goose-step beside you - and watch you touch the world for good. Complete and utter good, as pure as gold.
I love you. Now, tomorrow and always.
Enjoy.
